Parliamentary caucus to discuss US-Malaysia reciprocal tariffs

Malaysian MPs will assess the impact of US reciprocal tariffs and propose initiatives to protect national interests at a bipartisan caucus this Thursday.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Parliamentary Caucus on US Reciprocal Tariffs on Malaysia will convene this Thursday to discuss implications of the recent Malaysia-United States trade agreement.

Chaired by Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar), the caucus aims to raise awareness among MPs and the public about global trade disruptions from US policy changes.

The session will assess direct and indirect impacts of reciprocal tariffs on Malaysia and monitor developments in US trade policies.

It will also propose appropriate initiatives to protect national interests, according to a Parliament statement.

The bipartisan caucus was established during a Special Meeting of the Dewan Rakyat on May 5, 2025.

Membership includes MPs from both government and opposition blocs, with government representatives selected by the Backbenchers Club chairman and opposition members by the Opposition Leader.

The caucus serves as a platform to engage and provide input to the government in formulating comprehensive national trade strategy.
