Penang Chinese New Year open house set for Feb 17 at SPICE Arena

Penang’s state-level Chinese New Year open house will be held on Feb 17 at SPICE Arena, featuring cultural performances and traditional food

PENANG: The state government will host its Chinese New Year Open House at the SPICE Arena in Bayan Baru on February 17.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced the event will run from 2 pm to 4.30 pm and is open to the public, especially Penang residents.

This year’s celebrations will be graced by the presence of Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Taib and his wife Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah.

Chow said the programme will showcase the richness of Chinese traditions, culture, and values.

A variety of traditional dishes from different ethnic groups will be served.

Cultural performances will include traditional songs, lion dances, and the 24 Festival Drums.

He added the event symbolises unity and reflects the state’s commitment to celebrating major festivals together.

“It fosters a community that respects cultural diversity,” Chow said.

The open house is scheduled for the first day of Chinese New Year instead of the customary second day.

This adjustment was made as Ramadan is anticipated to begin on that date.
