MARA chairman says the amendments to the 1966 Act will be tabled in parliament after cabinet approval of the policy paper.

JOHOR BAHRU: The proposed amendments to the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Act 1966 are expected to be tabled in Parliament this year following Cabinet approval of the related policy paper.

MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said he had been instructed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, to ensure the amendment process is completed according to schedule so that it can be tabled this year.

“At this stage, the process is still at the policy level. The draft will be shared with all stakeholders, particularly other ministries, for review and feedback before it is brought back to the Cabinet for approval prior to being tabled in Parliament,” he told reporters after attending the Zikir Peringatan Haul Asmaulhusna 2026 programme at Masjid Sultan Iskandar, Bandar Dato Onn, here today.

Also present were Ahmad Zahid and Johor BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He said the amendments were important to ensure that the new MARA Act is more relevant and able to strengthen the agency’s role in the Bumiputera development agenda.
