New Anti-Bullying Tribunal Bill prioritises rehabilitation for both victims and perpetrators, covering incidents beyond school premises.
JITRA: The government’s proposed Anti-Bullying Tribunal Bill will emphasise rehabilitation rather than punishment for all parties involved in bullying cases.
Legal Affairs Division Director-General Datuk Zamri Misman confirmed the bill’s restorative approach would address both victims and perpetrators.
He explained this focus during a press conference following the Kedah and Perlis state-level Anti-Bullying Tribunal Town Hall session at the Aminuddin Baki Institute.
Zamri revealed this marked the twelfth and final engagement session before presenting collected feedback to the Cabinet.
“We have met with more than 3,000 participants through these town hall sessions on the bill and received very positive responses,” he stated.
He expressed appreciation for the valuable input shared during these consultation sessions.
The legislation will extend beyond school grounds to cover bullying incidents occurring in residential areas and other locations.
Victims will gain direct access to complain to the Anti-Bullying Tribunal established under this new Act.
Zamri confirmed the Children’s Commissioner would collaborate with MCMC to create a child-friendly online complaint platform.
This digital initiative aims to simplify the process for children seeking help with bullying incidents.
The proposed tribunal office will likely operate under the Prime Minister’s Department according to current plans.
Zamri noted this administrative arrangement remains subject to final confirmation and approval. – Bernama
