Bailey bridge installation at Kampung Sungai Mok ready, route reopens

A new Bailey bridge at Kampung Sungai Mok, Rompin, is now open to light vehicles, restoring access after the original bridge collapsed due to heavy rain.

KUANTAN: A new modular steel Bailey bridge at Kampung Sungai Mok in Rompin has been completed, reopening the route to road users.

The Rompin Public Works Department (JKR) stated that installation of the 30.48-metre ZB200-type bridge began on Jan 6 and was fully completed within five days.

The bridge was installed after the existing structure collapsed on Jan 2, severing the village’s main access route.

JKR attributed the collapse to increased river flow from continuous heavy rain, which caused scouring at the bridge abutment and led to structural failure.

The route is now open exclusively to light vehicles with a maximum load limit of eight tonnes.

A speed limit of 20 kilometres per hour is in effect, and heavy vehicles are strictly prohibited.

Enquiries can be directed to the Rompin JKR at 09-4145040.
