Traffic congestion builds on major highways as holidaymakers return to Kuala Lumpur after Chinese New Year, with slow-moving conditions reported on PLUS, NKVE, and other key routes
KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic flow on several major highways in Peninsular Malaysia began moving slowly towards the capital this afternoon following the final day of the Chinese New Year public holiday.
A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesperson said the noticeable increase in vehicles on main routes had caused congestion and delays at several locations as of 5 pm.
On the North-South Expressway (PLUS) E1, northbound traffic is slow from Changkat Jering to Taiping Utara and from Taiping Utara to Bukit Merah.
Southbound traffic is slow from Sungai Petani Selatan to Bertam, Sungai Dua to Permatang Pauh, and Permatang Pauh to Seberang Jaya.
Further southbound congestion extends from Seberang Jaya to Perai, Alor Pongsu to Bukit Merah, and Kuala Kangsar to the Sungai Perak Rest and Service Area.
Slow traffic also continues from Gopeng to Tapah and from Tapah to Bidor on the PLUS highway.
On the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), southbound traffic was reported to be slow from Sungai Buloh to Bukit Lanjan.
On the PLUS E2 Expressway, northbound traffic is moving slowly from Kulai to Sedenak, Jasin to Ayer Keroh, and Pedas Linggi to Senawang.
Northbound congestion also affects the stretch from Southville City to Bangi and from Bangi to Kajang.
For the southbound E2, congestion has been reported from UPM to Kajang and from the Yong Peng lay-by to Yong Peng Utara.
Further southbound delays are noted from Simpang Renggam to Sedenak and from Sedenak to Kulai.
Traffic flow on the Johor Causeway southbound is also slow from the middle of the bridge towards the Woodlands CIQ Complex in Singapore.
On the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway southbound, traffic is slow from the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza to the Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ Complex.
On the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (E8), eastbound traffic is slow from the MRR2 interchange to the Gombak Toll Plaza.
Westbound traffic on the E8 is slow from Bentong Timur to the Bentong Toll Plaza and from the Gombak lay-by to the Gombak Toll Plaza.
