Malaysian Armed Forces training SOPs have no shortcomings, says defence chief, addressing concerns over isolated incidents and bullying culture
PORT DICKSON: The Chief of Defence Force has stated there are no shortcomings in the Malaysian Armed Forces’ standard operating procedures for training.
Gen Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar said the MAF ensures full compliance with all SOPs, including those for reporting and daily drills.
“All the SOPs have been reviewed; so far, there are no shortcomings in the training SOPs,“ he told reporters after a medal presentation ceremony here today.
He was speaking at the United Nations National Medal ceremony for the Malaysian Battalion 850-12, involving 852 personnel.
Mohd Nizam urged parents not to worry about allowing their children to join the MAF following several isolated issues.
“Even if someone says they are afraid to send their children to the MAF, my own mother would have said the same,“ he said.
He added that after 41 years in service, the MAF is not something to be feared but part of the sacrifice for the country.
The defence chief also stated that bullying is not a culture within the military.
He explained that training aims to build the character and resilience expected of servicemen and servicewomen.
“It is not easy to wear this uniform, so the training conducted may appear tough to the public,“ Mohd Nizam said.
He emphasised that any offence under civil law is also an offence under military law.
All personnel must follow a Code of Conduct or Warrior Ethos, with violations facing strict action. – Bernama
