Former PM Dr Mahathir is stable after a fall, suffering a hip fracture but in non-life-threatening condition, says daughter Marina Mahathir.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is in fine condition after being admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN).
His daughter, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, said the matter is serious but not life-threatening. “It is serious, but it’s not dangerous. For his age, everything is relative… he’s fine,” she told Bernama at the IJN lobby.
She added that a fuller statement with more details would be issued later to ensure all medical terms are correct.
The 100-year-old statesman was admitted at about 9.30 am after reportedly falling at his residence earlier in the morning.
His press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, confirmed Dr Mahathir was taken to IJN by ambulance and was conscious upon arrival.
A subsequent medical assessment confirmed the former prime minister suffered a fracture in his right hip. “Tun is expected to be admitted for the next few weeks for treatment and observation,” Sufi said in a message via the official Dr M Media Updates WhatsApp group.
Dr Mahathir was previously treated at IJN for fatigue in July 2025 but was discharged on the same day.
