Eight injured in Setapak ambulance crash at traffic light

An ambulance on a red light collided with a car, causing a chain-reaction crash that injured eight people, including a nine-year-old girl, in Setapak.

KUALA LUMPUR: Eight people were injured when a Malaysian Red Crescent Society ambulance crashed into multiple vehicles at a traffic light intersection in Setapak this morning.

The crash occurred at 8.10 am at the Jalan Usahawan 6 junction.

Head of Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the ambulance, driven by a 34-year-old man, entered the intersection on a red light and collided with a car.

The impact caused the ambulance to veer off the road, striking four motorcyclists, a nine-year-old girl who was a pillion passenger, and another stationary car.

A 40-year-old male motorcyclist suffered a broken thigh bone.

The other seven victims, including the young girl, sustained minor injuries.

All casualties were treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

The ambulance was en route to pick up a patient from the Gombak Setia People’s Housing Project.

A 36-second dashcam video showing the ambulance veering and crashing into motorcyclists has gone viral online.

Police are investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Witnesses are urged to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999.
