FINAS will reprint Hassan Muthalib’s animation works and books to preserve his legacy as Malaysia’s animation father for future filmmakers
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) will reprint the works and scholarly books of Malaysian animation pioneer Hassan Muthalib.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said this initiative ensures the Father of Malaysian Animation’s legacy remains accessible for reference.
Hassan’s works will be preserved in FINAS’s library collection for industry professionals to access.
“Such contributions deserve to be properly documented,” Fahmi told reporters after visiting Hassan under the FINAS Ziarah Seni Madani 2025 programme.
The minister noted Hassan has written extensively about filmmaking craft and has a new book scheduled for early next year.
Hassan’s prominent works from the 1980s, including Sang Kancil dan Sang Monyet, will help students and academics understand Malaysian animation history.
Documenting his body of work honours his immense industry contributions while inspiring future creative talents.
“We want the younger generation to understand the foundations of the nation’s film and animation industry,” Fahmi added.
The minister presented a contribution to Hassan, who is recovering from recent spinal surgery. – Bernama
