Fire department aims for 90% welfare association membership

JBPM targets over 90% membership in its state welfare associations to expedite aid for personnel, with some states yet to meet the goal.

BATU KAWAN: The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) aims to boost membership in its state welfare associations to over 90% this year.

This initiative seeks to ensure faster welfare protection for its personnel, especially during disasters.

Acting director-general (Operations) Datuk Ahmad Izram Osman said membership rates in several states have not yet reached the target.

He cited Penang with 716 members (84.2%) and Kedah with 712 members (88.2%) as examples.

“Aid disbursement through the Kumpulan Wang Kebajikan Bomba takes time due to required approvals,” he said.

“Through this association, such aid can be channelled faster, which is why we encourage registration.”

He spoke after a welfare contribution programme at the Penang JBPM Headquarters.

The event was held in collaboration with the National Association of Wives of Fire Personnel and Women Fire Personnel (Perisma).

Earlier, Ahmad Izram presented financial aid to seven association members affected by recent floods in Kedah.

JBPM also received two hearses worth RM439,000 from Affin Bank Berhad.

The contribution was part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility initiative.

One van was handed to the Kelantan JBPM on Jan 8, and the other was presented to Penang JBPM today. – Bernama
