Flood evacuees in eight Malaysian states drop to 14,888 as waters recede, with multiple relief centres closing amid improving weather conditions
KUALA LUMPUR: Flood conditions across Peninsular Malaysia showed significant improvement today as evacuee numbers dropped dramatically to 14,888 people tonight from 18,731 this afternoon.
The reduction came as floodwaters receded following improved weather conditions in most affected states.
In Perlis, evacuee numbers decreased to 3,009 people across 12 centres in Padang Besar, Kangar and Arau from 3,577 this afternoon, with three relief centres closing completely.
Perak saw evacuees drop to 4,840 people at 30 centres across five districts from 5,920 earlier, with centres in Manjung and Perak Tengah closing.
Kedah’s flood situation improved with only 342 people remaining at two relief centres in Kubang Pasu, down from 416 this afternoon, though Sungai Bata remained above its warning level at 10.241 metres.
Selangor reported 2,789 evacuees at 30 centres in Kuala Selangor, Sepang, Kuala Langat and Sabak Bernam tonight, reduced from 3,203 people this afternoon.
Kelantan maintained 940 evacuees across five centres tonight compared to 1,026 this afternoon, with multiple centres closing across eight districts.
Pahang’s evacuee numbers dropped significantly to 585 people at 17 centres from 1,132 this afternoon, though Sungai Pahang remained above danger levels at three monitoring stations.
Terengganu reported 2,018 evacuees at 58 centres across seven districts, reduced from 2,634 people this afternoon, with several rivers still above danger and warning levels.
Negeri Sembilan recorded only 89 evacuees at two centres in Port Dickson, down from 109 people this afternoon. – Bernama
