Flood evacuees in Perak, Kedah, and Penang rise slightly to 5,850, with Kedah recording the highest increase and several rivers above danger level
KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Perak, Kedah, and Penang remains largely unchanged with the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres rising slightly to 5,850 this morning from 5,788 last night.
In Perak, four districts remain affected by floods with 2,867 victims from 967 families taking shelter at 28 temporary relief centres as of 8 am.
The Perak State Disaster Management Committee secretariat reported that Larut, Matang and Selama district continues to record the highest number of evacuees with 1,872 people from 640 families sheltering at 19 relief centres.
Manjung district has 607 victims from 202 families housed at five relief centres while Kerian has 278 victims from 94 families at three centres.
Perak Tengah district has 110 victims from 31 families being accommodated at a single relief centre.
In Kedah, the number of flood victims continues to rise with 1,934 people from 602 families relocated to 19 relief centres as of 9 am.
Kubang Pasu has become the latest district to be affected joining six others already impacted by the floods in the state.
Kulim district has the highest number of evacuees with 1,294 people from 372 families taking shelter at nine relief centres.
Baling district follows with 291 people from 119 families at four centres while Pendang has 111 people from 32 families at one relief centre.
Pokok Sena district has 102 people from 32 families at one relief centre and Sik has 79 people from 25 families at two centres.
Padang Terap district has 34 people from 11 families at one centre while Kubang Pasu has 23 people from 11 families at a relief centre.
The Public Infobanjir website reported that five rivers in Kedah have exceeded the danger level as monitoring continues.
Sungai Pendang in Pendang district is at 3.51 metres while Sungai Perik in Padang Terap district stands at 14.21 metres.
Sungai Laka in Kubang Pasu district has reached 22.11 metres and Sungai Titi Kerbau in Pendang district is at 6.84 metres.
Sungai Padang Terap in Kubang Pasu district records 4.05 metres above the danger level.
In Penang, the number of flood victims dropped slightly this morning to 1,049 people from 295 families staying at seven relief centres across three districts.
Seberang Perai Utara remains the worst-affected district with 781 people from 217 families taking shelter at four relief centres.
Seberang Perai Tengah has 234 people from 68 families at two centres while Barat Daya district has 34 people from 10 families at one relief centre. – Bernama
