Global conflicts remind Malaysians not to take peace for granted

Ongoing global conflicts highlight the preciousness of Malaysia’s peace and stability, says minister, urging gratitude and unity during Ramadan.

PUTRAJAYA: The peace and stability enjoyed in Malaysia are precious blessings that should not be taken for granted, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said.

He stated that current global conflicts serve as a reminder of the importance of preserving unity, mutual respect and harmonious living.

“As we enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Ramadan in our country, we cannot deny that, at the same time, there are communities in several parts of the world facing conflicts and wars,” Nga said during a Ramadan programme.

He added that the holy month provides an opportunity to cultivate gratitude for the nation’s peace and harmony.

Nga also highlighted his ministry’s efforts to empower the urban poor through economic programmes.

The Ministry of Housing and Local Government is actively implementing the Urban Community Economic Empowerment Programme nationwide with strategic partners.

The programme aims to help the urban poor generate more sustainable income through targeted entrepreneurship and skills training.

Nga cited the example of a single mother who joined the programme in 2025, learning to bake cakes and promote her products on social media.

“As a result, she managed to increase her monthly income from RM500 to RM4,000,” he said.

Such success stories align with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, according to the minister.

At the event, Nga and the ministry’s top management presented Aidilfitri contributions to 108 KPKT staff in need.

The initiative aims to ease the burden of staff in preparing for the festive season.

The event also featured a Quran tadabbur and recitation session, as well as a prize presentation for the best Ramadan office decorations.
