Government steps up efforts to ensure adequate food supply

Malaysia strengthens food security measures amid global crisis, with increased stockpiles and diversified supply sources, says Mohamad

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will continue to strengthen measures to ensure the country’s food supply remains stable and sufficient, amid the global supply crisis, said Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

He said the matter was among those discussed at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this morning.

“The government will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure that the country’s food supply remains sufficient and secure.

Efforts are being and will be further strengthened, including increasing food stockpiles, strengthening the national food sector, and diversifying supply sources,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Mohamad also urged the public to practise prudence and avoid waste as a collective effort in addressing current challenges.

“The government is closely monitoring developments and will continue to safeguard the welfare of the people while ensuring that national stability remains protected,” he said.
