Jamal Yunos’ assets seized over RM66,000 debt to Teresa Kok

Fourteen assets seized from Jamal Yunos’ home after he failed to pay RM66,061.85 in legal costs to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok from a defamation case.

KUALA LUMPUR: Fourteen movable assets have been seized from the home of Sungai Besar UMNO Division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos.

The seizure was executed to recover over RM66,000 in unpaid legal costs owed to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok from a concluded defamation case.

The plaintiff’s lawyer, Datuk S N Nair, said the action took place at Jamal’s residence in Ampang Jaya.

A team including a senior assistant registrar, bailiffs, and police officers carried out the court order.

“Upon arrival, the senior assistant registrar and bailiffs attempted to contact the occupants by calling out and ringing the doorbell, but received no response,” Nair said.

Acting under a Court Order dated Jan 23, 2026, the senior assistant registrar then authorised a forced entry.

“The seizure was completed by 12.36 pm, and the confiscated items are now pending disposal by public auction,” Nair added.

He explained the writ of seizure and sale was to recover a judgment debt of RM66,061.85.

“The court order empowered the bailiffs to use reasonable force to gain entry if access to the premises was refused,” the lawyer said.

In a related development, Jamal’s application for leave to appeal the High Court’s initial RM300,000 damages award to Kok was dismissed by the Federal Court in July 2024.

Jamal has since fully settled that RM300,000 amount.

The High Court had awarded Kok RM300,000 in damages and ordered Jamal to pay costs of RM50,000 in July 2022.

Kok filed the defamation suit in April 2017.

She alleged statements Jamal made about the Yawas fund during a press conference in March 2017 were defamatory.

In her claim, she said the remarks were widely disseminated through print, electronic media, and Jamal’s Facebook page.

Kok argued the statements portrayed her as misappropriating state funds for personal benefit and as an unethical individual.
