US deports three former members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards

The US has deported three former members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards who entered the country illegally, as tensions with Tehran escalate over a deadly crackdown.

WASHINGTON: US authorities have deported three former members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards who entered the country illegally.

The Department of Homeland Security announced the deportations on Tuesday amid soaring tensions between Washington and Tehran.

“The American people deserve a safe and secure homeland, free from the threat of foreign terrorism,” said DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin.

The three men were identified as Ehsan Khaledi, Mohammad Mehrani and Morteza Nasirikakolaki.

A DHS statement said they all separately entered the United States illegally in 2024.

It did not elaborate on their alleged involvement with the IRGC or their activities in the US.

The announcement comes as President Donald Trump has not ruled out military intervention over Iran’s deadly crackdown on protests.

Activists accuse the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of playing a frontline role in suppressing the demonstrations.

Human rights groups say the crackdown has killed more than 6,000 people since it began earlier this month.

The European Union is set to target senior IRGC members in a first volley of sanctions over the deadly crackdown, according to diplomats.

Trump designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization in 2019.

The powerful military body answers directly to Iran’s supreme leader.
