The Road Transport Department bans goods vehicles for four days during Chinese New Year to ease traffic and reduce crash risks, with specific rules for different vehicle categories.
PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will enforce a four-day prohibition on goods transport vehicles during the upcoming Chinese New Year period. The ban aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce the risk of crashes during the festive season.
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the ban will be enforced on February 14 and 15, two days before the festival, as well as on February 21 and 22. He advised all operators and drivers of affected vehicles to comply with the directive.
Road users are also advised to always comply with traffic rules and plan their journeys properly. Aedy Fadly said complaints related to traffic offences can be channelled via the MyJPJ app or email.
The ban involves three categories of goods vehicles with different restrictions. For category one, the ban is enforced at all times on the specified dates.
This category includes heavy haulage lorries, tipper lorries over 7,500kg, and lorries transporting construction materials like cement and steel. It also covers low-loader lorries, pole trailers, and tractors.
For category two, the ban is from 8 pm to 8 am throughout the enforcement period. This includes container lorries transporting goods, with some exceptions for port or airport logistics within the same state.
Category two also covers cargo lorries transporting electronic goods or industrial chemicals, and lorries transporting fresh oil palm fruit bunches or crude palm oil products. Empty cargo lorries are also included in this category.
For category three, namely mobile cranes and concrete mixer lorries, the ban is from 6 pm to 6 am. Their operation is subject to a 25-kilometre distance from base to construction site and permitted hours on specific roads.
JPJ stated that wheeled heavy machinery and mobile cranes are exempted when carrying out emergency works. Any goods vehicles or types of goods not stated in the official schedule are allowed to use the roads during the ban period.
