Lenggong Geopark expands Geoschool module to three more schools

Lenggong Geopark aims to bring its Geoschool education module to three more schools to strengthen community development and local entrepreneurship

LENGGONG: The Lenggong Geopark is targeting three more schools to adopt its ‘Geoschool Module’ to strengthen community development and education within the geopark ecosystem.

Lenggong Geopark Management Geocommunity chairman Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said only one school, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Raban, is currently undergoing the module.

“We hope to build two or three more that will also involve secondary schools,” he said at a press conference after officiating the Lenggong Community Centre.

He said the module is an important step in supporting area development, alongside the new community centre created by Think City in collaboration with the Lenggong District Council.

Shamsul Anuar, who is also the Lenggong MP, said the geopark also focuses on developing local entrepreneurship through a Geo-Entrepreneur programme.

The programme supports the production of handicrafts, weaving and other community-based products.

“I hope Think City can help promote the place so that tourists can come to visit,” he said.

Lenggong District Council president Mohd Amzari Mohd Arzami said tourist stays in Lenggong jumped from 22,000 in 2022 to 154,000 in 2024.

He said approximately 156,000 staying visitors have been recorded until October 2025.

“That number will give a spillover effect from their spending in the Lenggong area which will empower the community,” Mohd Amzari said.

He added that the local community has begun to see the income-generating potential of the geopark and its UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
