Malaysia completes new AFPPD secretariat house in Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia completes RM790,930 AFPPD Secretariat House in KL, establishing the country as the forum’s Asia-Pacific operational hub for five years.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Secretariat House for the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) has been completed in the capital.

Constructed at a cost of RM790,930, the facility was finished on January 10 after work began on July 15 last year.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the building underscores Malaysia’s role as the new host of the AFPPD Secretariat.

The secretariat will relocate from Japan to Kuala Lumpur, establishing Malaysia as the organisation’s Asia-Pacific operational hub for at least five years.

“This selection reflects international recognition of Malaysia’s active role in advancing sustainable development, gender equality, health rights, youth empowerment and population issues,” Nanta said in a statement.

He is also the chairman of AFPPD Malaysia.

Nanta expressed appreciation to the AFPPD team, stating the Secretariat House symbolises continued regional trust and cooperation.

Malaysia was selected to host the secretariat during the forum’s 15th General Assembly held in Kuala Lumpur in April last year.

Established in 1981, AFPPD is a network of 30 national committees comprising parliamentarians.

It focuses on promoting parliamentary engagement in addressing population and development issues across the Asia-Pacific region.
