Malaysia welcomes German SME green tech investments

Deputy PM Fadillah says German SME investments in green technology and renewable energy align with Malaysia’s sustainable development goals

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia welcomes more investments from German Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), particularly in the fields of green technology, renewable energy and water management and treatment.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said investments in these sectors are in line with the country’s sustainable development agenda.

He said this was shared during a courtesy call from the German Ambassador to Malaysia, Silke Riecken-Daerr, who was accompanied by a delegation from the German SME Business Association at Parliament House, today.

“Germany is one of Malaysia’s important trading partners, especially in the mechanical engineering and manufacturing technology sectors.

“There are currently over 800 German companies operating in Malaysia in various fields, reflecting the strong economic relationship between the two countries,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Fadillah said the meeting also discussed the potential for strengthening cooperation in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as Germany is known for its world-class system that has successfully produced a highly skilled workforce.

“The experience and expertise can be utilised to enhance the human capital and competitiveness of the Malaysian workforce in facing future economic challenges,” he said.

Fadillah also expressed confidence that bilateral relations between Malaysia and Germany will continue to be strengthened through strategic cooperation that benefits both countries.
