Malaysian flood rescue team concludes successful Hat Yai mission

A Malaysian towing team has completed its flood relief mission in Hat Yai as waters recede, having rescued approximately 400 stranded Malaysians from the Thai city.

HAT YAI: Floodwaters have receded in Hat Yai city as recovery efforts begin following major flooding that struck several days ago. The Kuala Lumpur-based Jemaah Towing Response Team has concluded its rescue operations for stranded Malaysians.

Team representative Muhammad Zulhilmi Abdul Latif confirmed his four partners returned to Malaysia via Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah around noon. The Royal Thai Army informed the Malaysian rescuers they could wind down operations as the situation improves.

“The embassy would like to thank them,” Muhammad Zulhilmi told Bernama. He noted that affected areas in Hat Yai city now show receded water levels, allowing for the recovery process to begin.

The four rescuers, identified only as Sudin, Farid, Acap and Adli, entered southern Thailand last Tuesday to assist Malaysians caught in the flooding. They faced challenges including strong currents, high water levels and risky conditions during their mission.

Supported by NGOs Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dana Kita and Peduli Ummah, the team successfully rescued an estimated 400 Malaysians. Muhammad Zulhilmi said the team will now continue flood relief missions in northern Malaysian states with their strategic NGO partners.
