Malaysia’s economy on track for 4.9% growth in 2025

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia is on a resilient growth path with controlled inflation and a strengthening ringgit, driven by governance reforms.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has affirmed that Malaysia will continue on a positive, resilient, and inclusive growth trajectory.

He stated the country stands on firmer ground, with gross domestic product on track to grow by around 4.9% in 2025 while inflation has been contained at 1.6%.

“Investment confidence is returning as Malaysia stands on firmer ground, with GDP on track to grow and inflation contained – encouraging signs of disciplined fiscal management and renewed seriousness in governance,” he said in his keynote address at the official launch of Forum Ekonomi Malaysia 2026.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, said this progress reflects a deliberate effort to restore trust in public finances and institutional integrity.

He emphasised that confidence responds to consistency and sustained reform, not slogans or short-term measures.

“One visible signal of renewed confidence is the strengthening of the ringgit,” he added.

Anwar stated that external factors play a role, but currencies ultimately reflect trust in a country’s policy direction and disciplined governance.

He attributed this rebuilding of trust to the MADANI Government’s clear and uncompromising stand against corruption.

“There will be no tolerance for corruption and no exceptions for the well connected,” he asserted.

The prime minister stressed that accountability is essential for credibility, which in turn is the foundation for sustainable growth.

He added that institutions are being strengthened so integrity depends on systems, not personalities.

On the energy transition, Anwar said it is a practical response to changing global markets and is no longer optional.

He said investors require clear rules and institutions must provide stability for this transition to succeed.

“As Parliament prepares to consider the Climate Change Bill, we will pursue this transition in a manner that is orderly, evidence-based, and firmly anchored in national interest,” he concluded.
