Mid Valley Mall kitchen fire extinguished, zero casualties

Restaurant kitchen fire at Mid Valley Megamall quickly contained by sprinklers; no injuries reported

PETALING JAYA: A kitchen fire at a Mid Valley Megamall restaurant was rapidly contained last night, with sprinklers and staff action preventing injuries or significant damage.

Emergency services received notification of the incident through the 999 emergency line at approximately 8.49pm on December 21, with the affected establishment located on the mall’s ground level.

According to operations commander Azizan Albar from the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department, response teams from Pantai and Jalan Hang Tuah stations were deployed immediately.

He reportedly said the department’s response involved 25 firefighting personnel supported by specialized equipment including a Fire Rescue Tender, an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit, a water tanker, and a Rapid Intervention Motorcycle.

Emergency crews reached the shopping complex at 8.56pm, arriving to find the flames already suppressed by the venue’s automatic fire suppression system and restaurant employees wielding dry powder extinguishers.

Initial findings suggest the blaze originated within the kitchen area during food preparation activities, though authorities continue investigating to pinpoint the precise cause.

Azizan confirmed that no one sustained injuries in the incident, with operations wrapping up at 10.23pm.
