Tourism ministry calls for reasonable pricing at airports after tourist complaints, linking lower rents to cheaper goods for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
SEPANG: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has urged Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd to find solutions for the high prices of food and goods at airports.
Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the ministry had received numerous complaints from tourists and the public about inflated costs at airport outlets.
“I have discussed this with tenants of the outlets, who said that if rental arrangements can be improved, selling prices could be reduced,” he stated.
He added that this issue required further discussion at the management level with MAHB.
Tiong also expressed hope that MAHB would provide more shop lots offering local food ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
This initiative aims to better promote Malaysian cuisine to both foreign and domestic tourists.
He was speaking after launching the ShopLAH campaign by MAHB at Kuala Lumpur International Airport today.
Commenting on the new campaign, Tiong said it enhances the shopping experience for tourists arriving at the country’s main gateways.
MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said ShopLAH highlights local brands like Sense of Malaysia and Royal Selangor.
He said the campaign reflects Malaysia’s identity while incorporating digital elements through the MYAirports app.
The initiative is being rolled out at KLIA and other MAHB-operated international airports in Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
It forms part of ongoing efforts to position airports as hubs connecting tourism, business and national identity.
