Negeri Sembilan braces for 800,000 vehicles during Aidilfitri exodus

Police anticipate a 74% surge in traffic entering Negeri Sembilan for Aidilfitri, deploying hundreds of officers and identifying key congestion hotspots.

SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan police are preparing for a massive influx of approximately 800,000 vehicles entering the state during the Aidilfitri holidays.

This figure represents a 74% increase compared to the normal daily traffic volume of 460,000 vehicles.

A total of 40 officers and 242 personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department will be deployed for the six-day Op Selamat operation beginning tomorrow.

Concurrently, Op Lancar will be implemented from today until Friday and again from March 27 to 29 across all districts to ensure smooth traffic flow.

State police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad identified the Seremban–Kuala Pilah road, particularly near the popular smoked duck stalls, as a key congestion point.

“Congestion or slow-moving traffic in this area is unavoidable,” he told reporters.

He also reminded the public not to park their vehicles in a manner that obstructs main roads when stopping at roadside stalls.

Police have identified 12 congestion ‘hotspots’ across the state in anticipation of the holiday traffic.

The public is encouraged to use the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol application or submit a ‘balik kampung’ form at their nearest police station to enable patrols at unattended homes.

To date, 60,589 users have registered for the VSP application, but only 19 ‘balik kampung’ form applications have been submitted through it.
