SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan government has channelled RM19.6 million over the past five years to develop the state’s livestock industry.
State Agriculture, Food Security and Cost of Living Committee chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said the sum was part of the RM29.3 million allocated under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
“Among the initiatives implemented were veterinary extension and regulatory programmes, animal health improvement, livestock production enhancement, agro-based industry development, genetic upgrading as well as advances in feed and pasture technology,” he told the State Legislative Assembly.
He was replying to a question on measures to help new livestock entrepreneurs strengthen resilience in tackling challenges.
Jalaluddin added that improvement efforts include reorganising grazing areas and promoting disease-free farm certification.
In a separate reply, he said about 1,150 hectares of padi fields are currently cultivated across 13 schemes in several districts.
He also stated the state wants the Padi Collection Centre in Melang, Kuala Pilah to continue as the main hub for the area.
“Between January and September this year, the centre received 614.37 metric tonnes of padi,” he said.
