A new RM65.28 million MMEA complex in Semporna strengthens Sabah’s maritime security with modern facilities and enhanced operational capabilities.
SEMPORNA: The government has reinforced Sabah’s security with a new Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency complex costing RM65.28 million.
This facility will act as the primary maritime defence installation for the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated the complex at Batu 1, Jalan Bubul, Tampi-Tampi includes an administrative building, logistics blocks, and a marina.
It also features a helipad for air missions, a parade ground, sports amenities, and residential quarters for staff.
These advanced facilities are designed to enhance maritime security along Sabah’s east coast against smuggling and illegal immigration.
The minister explained the complex will allow MMEA personnel to respond more quickly and effectively to maritime incidents.
It will function as the main operational base for the Semporna Maritime Zone and a coordination centre for joint security operations.
Construction started on January 30, 2020, with onshore buildings finished ahead of schedule on September 29, 2025.
Work continues on the 165-metre access bridge and 100-metre jetty head, scheduled for completion by July 2026.
The government is also improving national maritime security with new MMEA complexes in Kelantan and Labuan.
Saifuddin Nasution added that the fleet is being strengthened with four new helicopters and a mothership under construction in Türkiye.
Malaysia has also received a vessel from the US Coast Guard, which is expected to arrive in Klang, Selangor on November 5. – Bernama
