Ops Selamat 25 targets 71 high-risk zones on major highways

Police will monitor 25 congestion hotspots and 46 accident blackspots on major highways during the Chinese New Year travel period.

SUNGAI BULOH: Police have identified 71 critical zones for special monitoring on major highways during the upcoming Chinese New Year travel surge.

The operation will focus on 25 traffic congestion hotspots and 46 accident-prone blackspots.

Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said constant surveillance aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and swift emergency response.

Ops Selamat 25 will run from February 15 to February 20.

Nationwide, the operation will cover 407 hotspots and 76 blackspots on federal, state and municipal roads.

“Our focus will be on congestion- and accident-prone areas,” Mohd Yusri said at a media conference after launching the initiative.

He stated that personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department will be increased in these areas.

Other agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department and the Road Transport Department, will also be stationed at strategic highway locations.

The Royal Malaysia Police Air Wing Unit will be mobilised for aerial monitoring of highways.

This is to manage roads expected to experience a sudden surge in traffic volume.

Mohd Yusri advised the public to plan journeys using the Travel Time Advisory provided by PLUS.

He also urged travellers to inform police of their trips via the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol application.
