Perak remains vigilant as Tropical Storm Senyar approaches

Perak monitors Tropical Storm Senyar impact with flood victims in seven districts receiving aid while maintaining disaster preparedness measures

IPOH: Perak has not been severely affected by Tropical Storm Senyar but remains on high alert for potential flooding disasters.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the state government continues to take precautionary measures through the State Disaster Control Centre established at the State Secretary’s office.

“We’re constantly monitoring the situation based on forecasts issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department,” he told reporters after launching the State Assembly Members Information System (eADN) at Perak Darul Ridzuan Building.

Saarani noted that initial reports indicate Perak hasn’t suffered major impacts from the storm that began affecting the country since yesterday afternoon.

The state is among areas predicted to be affected by Tropical Storm Senyar, including regions bordering Selangor.

The weather phenomenon is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds from last night until tomorrow, potentially causing rising water levels.

The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Perak reported over 10 tree collapse incidents from yesterday evening until 6am this morning across several districts.

Affected areas include Kuala Kangsar, Muallim, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Taiping following strong winds and storms.

According to the Public Works Department Disaster Operations Room, four districts in Perak have been affected as of 6am.

Saarani confirmed all security agency assets have been deployed to flood-affected areas in Perak.

Food supplies and necessities have been provided to victims at temporary evacuation centres currently housing over 5,000 people.

“I visited several PPS yesterday and so far, all needs including food have been well managed by the Social Welfare Department,” he said.

Authorities will ensure basic needs of victims are met and their homes are completely safe before allowing them to return.

Regarding eADN, Saarani said it serves as an integrated platform to digitally record and manage information of current and retired State Assembly members.

The system enables all applications from assembly members, retirees or heirs to be processed online more systematically.

This approach helps save time, improve information accuracy and reduce dependence on manual processes. – Bernama
