Selangor confirms all land matters for Port Klang’s third terminal on Pulau Carey were finalised in December last year.

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government has clarified that all land-related matters for the development of Port Klang’s third terminal on Pulau Carey were finalised in December last year.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the arrangements involved approximately 1,012 hectares of seabed area, 688 hectares of land owned by Yayasan Selangor, and a further 86 hectares of land that can be developed at any time.

“From the State Government’s perspective, our commitment regarding the land has been fulfilled. We have been ready to commence development as soon as approvals are obtained since the beginning of this year, and the land for the port has already been identified by the Port Klang Authority through its studies.

“The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) is also in discussions with the relevant company to begin developing the site,” he told a press conference at the lobby of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly Building here today.

Although site preparation matters have been completed, he said implementation of the project is currently delayed pending a decision from the Federal Government, particularly regarding the approval structure and port jurisdiction under the Transport Ministry.

He said the state government is awaiting further guidance following a legal opinion indicating that ports must be owned by the Federal Government and cannot be approved as privately owned entities.

“We are waiting for the Federal Government’s decision on whether it wishes to take over the project or grant specific approvals that would allow construction work to begin.

“What is important now is to build the port as quickly as possible because it will not be located on existing land but will instead be constructed on a seabed area through a land reclamation process,” he said.

On June 18, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said that Selangor was refining solutions to land-related issues for the initial phase of the Third Terminal development at Pulau Carey.

He said discussions were being conducted between his ministry, the Selangor State Government, and private-sector parties to establish a concession model for the project.
