A Russian father urges improved beach safety after his two-year-old son died from a box jellyfish sting at Langkawi’s Chenang Beach
ALOR SETAR: The father of a Russian boy who died after being stung by a box jellyfish has called for improved beach safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.
Nikita Lakubanets, 32, expressed hope that authorities would take steps to address the issue following his son’s death at Chenang Beach in Langkawi.
“They should improve beach safety because deaths like this must be prevented,” he told reporters at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital today.
“Our son’s death shows that the problem is very serious and has caused us immense pain.”
The Russian father said he hopes to see how the jellyfish problem will be addressed in the future.
“We hope our son will be the last person to die from this,” Nikita added.
His two-year-old son Vladimir died at the hospital on Wednesday after fighting for his life following the November 15 incident.
Kedah Tourism, Culture and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Salleh Saidin visited Nikita and his wife Olga, 32, at the hospital earlier today.
The couple plans to bring Vladimir’s ashes back to Russia after cremation. – Bernama
