Sabah records highest post-pandemic GDP growth in 2024

Sabah’s GDP rises to RM84.3 billion in 2024, highest since COVID-19, with controlled inflation and major development funding under 13MP

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has achieved its highest Gross Domestic Product since the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching RM84.30 billion in 2024.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the growth from RM77.80 billion in 2020 during his speech at the 2025 Sabah Civil Service Convention.

He attributed the performance to effective fiscal policies and prudent revenue management amid geopolitical and commodity market challenges.

“For 2025 and 2026, the state’s growth momentum is expected to continue strengthening through high-impact projects,” Hajiji stated.

He projected further GDP increases of 1.5% to 2% during this period.

Sabah’s inflation rate remained controlled at 1.2% in 2024, below the national average of 1.8%.

The state government’s stimulus initiatives included the Micro Credit Loan Scheme, approving RM2.37 million for 1,210 small and medium entrepreneurs.

Under the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan, Sabah will receive RM6.9 million in development funding for 2026.

The state cabinet approved a RM12.02 billion development expenditure ceiling covering 1,173 programmes and projects.

Hajiji highlighted the implementation of Good Regulatory Practice policy to improve service delivery efficiency.

“Throughout these five years, 48 new and amended bills were introduced to ensure objectives are achieved,” he said.

The Chief Minister acknowledged both successes and challenges during his leadership tenure.

He credited civil service support for achieving the Sabah Maju Jaya 1.0 Road Map development goals.

“As a leader, we always expect the best from our subordinates,” Hajiji concluded. – Bernama
