Selangor has 1,000+ relief centres ready with only 33 currently active, housing 4,433 flood evacuees across multiple districts as state monitors situation.
SEPANG: The Selangor government has over 1,000 temporary relief centres on standby to ensure the welfare and safety of flood victims throughout the monsoon season.
State executive councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin said only about 5% of these centres are currently in use, with nine facilities open in the Sepang district alone.
She reported that the SK Kampung Baharu Lanjut PPS in Sepang shelters the highest number at 297 people, while the SK Salak PPS accommodates 182 evacuees.
“Selangor Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari) is deeply concerned and has directed all executive councillors to assess the situation and the needs of victims firsthand,” Jamaliah told reporters after visiting flood evacuees.
The state government has already allocated funds to manage floods for this year and next year, she explained to victims including pregnant women and elderly residents.
As of noon today, 33 relief centres remain open across Selangor, accommodating 4,433 evacuees from 1,227 families according to the www.infobencanajkm website.
Kuala Selangor district has the most active centres with 14 facilities, followed by Sepang (9), Kuala Langat (5), Sabak Bernam (3) and Klang (2).
“The centres will only be closed when it is completely safe for evacuees to return home,” Jamaliah emphasised.
The Selangor government remains highly attentive to flood issues with a focus on implementing flood mitigation projects as a long-term strategy.
MPs in affected areas have been requested to communicate these proactive measures to constituents to ensure everyone remains informed.
Standard operating procedures at all relief centres are functioning well with necessary arrangements made in advance for smooth operations.
The state government has also mobilised over 300 logistical assets including operational machinery and 200 boats for deployment throughout the flood season. – Bernama
