Selangor will assist 44 families in Kampung Indian Settlement, Gombak, with rent and new affordable housing as they vacate for systematic development.
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will facilitate assistance for 44 families in Kampung Indian Settlement, Gombak, who must vacate their homes for more orderly development.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the aid aims to ease residents’ burden, including covering rental costs during construction of roads, drainage, and flood mitigation works.
He said the Gombak District and Land Office has discussed rebuilding more comfortable homes with Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB). The costs and payment mechanisms will be affordable for residents.
“The process is expected to begin next month after the Thaipusam celebration,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Amirudin added that he chaired an engagement session this week with residents and agencies to explain the state’s plans and gather feedback.
He said the engagement process is crucial to prevent misinterpretation of the initiative as racially motivated or oppressive.
“Kampung Indian Settlement needs to be developed in a more organised manner as some houses were built on road reserves,” he explained.
Without intervention, issues like inadequate road access, complications in land ownership transfers, and flood risks could arise.
“The area lacks road buffers and basic drainage systems critical to preventing rainwater accumulation,” he added.
The Gombak District and Land Office will coordinate the overall efforts to ensure smooth implementation for the long-term benefit of residents.
