Study on reviving UPSR and PT3 exams to be conducted this year

The Education Ministry will conduct a study this year on the need to revive UPSR and PT3 exams, with findings to be presented to the Cabinet

SHAH ALAM: A study on the need to revive the Form Three Assessment (PT3) and Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) will be conducted this year.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the findings will be presented to the Cabinet as soon as possible.

She called for time to allow the Ministry of Education (MOE) to conduct a comprehensive review, including consultations with key stakeholders like parents.

“The mandate has been given to the National Education Advisory Council (MPPK), with the ministry conducting a thorough review before explaining the findings to the public and tabling them to the Cabinet. Give us some time,” she said.

Fadhlina spoke at a press conference after opening the new SJKC Ladang Regent Elmina here today.

She had stated last week that the MOE reactivated the MPPK to study reviving the two examinations.

UPSR was abolished in 2021 and PT3 in 2022, with both replaced by School-Based Assessment.

Separately, Fadhlina reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to addressing bullying in schools.

She said all parties will sign a Student Protection Policy as a pledge to safeguard children.

The MOE is also finalising the Sekolah Sejahtera Sekolah Selamat Manual to be shared with parents and the public.

In another development, three of four schools in Telok Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat, damaged by a storm last October, resumed classes today.

The remaining school is expected to fully reopen next month.

The MOE allocated RM10.1 million for repair works to the four schools in Sijangkang affected by the storm.
