Tasik Chini tourism thrives despite resort closure, research centre in focus

Tourism at Tasik Chini remains active with its research centre offering accommodation and activities, as the state seeks investors to reopen the main resort

KUANTAN: Tourism activities at Tasik Chini in Pekan continue unaffected despite the area’s main resort remaining closed.

Pahang Unity, Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Leong Yu Man said the Pahang Government Secretariat Corporation is still securing investors to reopen the resort.

“The tourism area has not been affected even though the resort has not yet opened, because there is a Tasik Chini Research Centre which offers accommodation, camping, boating and kayaking facilities and has received a good response,” she said.

Leong stated the research centre is fully booked most weekends and offers Orang Asli, Tasik Chini and forest exploration packages.

She was responding to a question from Datuk Mohd Sharim Md Zain at the Pahang State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang.

The state government has formulated a policy and strategic plan to develop the location as a sustainable, community-based tourism destination.

All mining activities in Tasik Chini have stopped with no new licences issued since 2019, and the area remains a Permanent Forest Reserve.

Leong said the Tasik Chini Management Plan will be implemented in an integrated manner involving 18 agencies and four Orang Asli villages.

The plan includes ecosystem conservation through forest and lake restoration programmes with the State Forestry Department. – Bernama
