The Terengganu state government and FELDA have reached a positive settlement over a commercial plantation land issue involving 15,000 hectares.
KUALA TERENGGANU: Negotiations between the Terengganu state government and the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) over a commercial plantation land dispute have concluded with a positive outcome.
State Secretary Datuk Zulkifli Ali confirmed the settlement was reached after more than a month of talks. “We discussed it yesterday. (It is) settled. The outcome is positive,” he said.
He added that both parties are expected to issue official statements on the matter soon.
The dispute centred on approximately 15,000 hectares of FELDA-managed land across 10 plantations in several districts. The state government had previously issued notices prohibiting encroachment on these lands.
It alleged the land had been developed for over 40 years without payment of premiums, land tax, or profit-sharing.
Following positive developments in negotiations, the state government extended a remedial period granted to FELDA by one month.
