Higher Education Minister Zambry says UEC recognition must be evaluated within the national education framework, not politicised.
SERDANG: Any discussion on recognising education certificates, including the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), must be evaluated comprehensively within the framework of the existing national education system.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the issue should not be politicised.
He warned that politicisation could affect the objectivity and direction of the country’s education development.
He added that such matters must be assessed based on the present education ecosystem.
This includes considerations of language, history and other relevant aspects.
“These issues should be considered in the context of the Constitution, the foundations of education and the National Education Philosophy,” Zambry said.
He stressed the goal is to build an education system grounded in the country’s own foundations.
Zambry was speaking to reporters after officiating a Training of Trainers session at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
He said emotional approaches in debating education issues would compromise the needed objectivity.
Such an approach is necessary to maintain a balanced system that serves the national interest, he explained.
On December 12, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said any claims regarding language or UEC recognition must consider the status of the national language.
He noted these issues touch on sensitivities of religion, race and ethnicity as enshrined in the Constitution.
