Ministry urges road users to heed closures after a couple died when their SUV plunged into a ravine on a fully closed route in Terengganu
KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Ministry has extended its condolences to the family of a couple who died after their vehicle plunged into a ravine on a closed road.
Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the ministry views the incident seriously as it involves road user safety.
“Such incidents are truly unfortunate, especially when all the relevant agencies had already taken preventive measures by closing the road and putting up various warning signs,” he stated.
An initial report from the Hulu Terengganu Public Works Department confirmed the vehicle entered a route fully closed due to a prior road collapse.
JKR had installed clear warning signs and concrete barriers as safety measures at the site.
The road closure was gazetted under Section 70 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for a stretch of federal route FT36.
Nanta reminded the public to follow safety instructions and heed road closure signs at disaster sites.
JKR acted promptly by installing barriers, filing a police report over the closure breach, and logging the incident on an official portal.
Separately, KKR has secured approval for a RM36 million bridge construction project on FT36 in Hulu Terengganu.
The project is at the procurement stage, with a Letter of Acceptance expected in the fourth week of December 2025.
