PM Anwar sets two-week deadline for local issues

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim demands swift action on critical local issues, setting a two-week deadline for progress reports on agriculture, flood mitigation, education and healthcare.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for priority to be given to the immediate resolution of critical local issues, particularly in agriculture, drainage, flood mitigation, education and healthcare in Seberang Perai Tengah.

He said this when chairing the Seberang Perai Tengah District Development Meeting here today.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said such matters must not be delayed, as every delay affects the lives of the people awaiting solutions.

“Hence, coordination between the federal government and the state government must be strengthened so that every decision is translated into concrete action.

“Therefore, I have set a two-week deadline for all parties to report progress and follow-up actions on every agreed decision, because ultimately the real measure is not what we announce, but what truly changes on the ground. The people deserve to see that change — not later, but now,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the meeting also aimed to ensure that policies announced over the past three years are effectively implemented and meet the needs of local communities.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of initiatives that have a direct impact on the people, including hardcore poverty eradication, upgrading of hawker stalls, SejaTi MADANI, Kampung Angkat MADANI, Sekolah Angkat MADANI, special state economic projects, and safety aspects in Seberang Perai Tengah.

“I told the District Officer and his team to give full priority to the development of 30 new classrooms in 10 schools in the district and to ensure swift implementation without delay so that the intake of Year 1 students next year proceeds smoothly,” he said.

Anwar also reminded all parties not to be complacent with figures on paper.

“Reports of zero hardcore poverty must continue to be verified on the ground with local leaders so that no family is left behind. Likewise, the reduction in crime rates must be ensured to stem from effective enforcement,” he said.
