PM Anwar departs for South Korea to attend APEC leaders meeting

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim travels to South Korea for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting to strengthen regional economic cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has departed for South Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

He announced his participation in the meeting through a post on his social media page.

Anwar emphasised that the meeting serves as a crucial platform for enhancing regional economic cooperation networks.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the meeting’s role in expanding fair trade and advancing sustainability and global prosperity agendas.

He requested prayers for the Malaysian delegation’s smooth travel and successful mission outcomes.

APEC 2025 is being hosted in Gyeongju, South Korea’s southeastern coastal city.

This marks South Korea’s second time hosting the APEC meeting since its first hosting in 2005.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz are already in Gyeongju representing Malaysia at ministerial-level meetings.

The APEC 2025 theme “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow” focuses on advancing regional trade, artificial intelligence and sustainability.

Ministerial-level meetings will discuss various topics including health, the digital economy and small and medium enterprises.

Malaysia previously hosted APEC in 2020 using a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. – Bernama
