Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim calls for unity among federal and state leaders to build Malaysia into a great nation with economic strength and global respect

KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on federal and state leaders to collaborate in elevating Malaysia’s status as a great nation globally.

He emphasised that economic strength remains the government’s priority to ensure Malaysia commands international respect for both its security and policies.

“My focus is to ensure the success of this country as a great nation with economic strength,” Anwar said at the Prime Minister’s meet-and-greet session with Sabah industry associations.

He stressed the importance of maintaining friendships with all nations to support Malaysia’s economic growth and global standing.

Anwar highlighted Malaysia’s recent achievement in bringing together 11 ASEAN member states and major powers like the United States and China during the 47th ASEAN Summit.

“Malaysia is an independent nation,” he stated, adding that his decisions must protect the interests of the Malaysian people and economy.

The Prime Minister warned that political disputes at federal or state level could cause significant national losses if they affect the people.

“As Prime Minister, I will not tolerate such behaviour,” Anwar declared, emphasising that power must be used responsibly to safeguard citizens.

He urged Sabah’s leadership to work closely with the federal government to ensure inclusive and effective economic development in the state.

Anwar called for a shift away from racial politics and state-federal disputes toward strengthening the economy for public benefit.

“Business and investment cannot thrive without peace and strong national understanding,” he reminded attendees.

The event was also attended by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and several federal ministers. – Bernama
