Police urge witnesses and dashcam owners to come forward after a man’s body was discovered on the North-South Expressway emergency lane.
ALOR GAJAH: A man believed to be a local was found dead and covered in blood on the emergency lane at KM198.5 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound early this morning.
Alor Gajah police chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said police received information about the discovery at about 6.30 am, following which a team of officers was dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, police confirmed that the victim had died at the scene. Preliminary investigations found that the victim was a man whose identity has yet to be established. He is believed to be a local and is estimated to be in his 40s,” he said in a statement today.
He said the victim had sustained severe head injuries.
According to him, based on preliminary investigations at the scene, police have not ruled out the possibility that the victim, who is believed to have been walking along the highway, was struck by a vehicle that has yet to be identified.
“However, the actual cause of the incident and the victim’s death remain under investigation. The body has been taken to the Forensic Department of Alor Gajah Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death and assist further investigations,” he said.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police are urging anyone with information related to the incident, or who may have dashcam footage recorded while travelling along the northbound stretch of the North-South Expressway near KM198.5 between 5.30 am and 6.30 am today, to come forward and assist in the investigation.
