603 election offences recorded during Sabah state polls

EC chairman reveals 603 election offences during Sabah polls, with 81 police reports and 5 MACC cases among the violations.

PAPAR: Election Commission chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun confirmed 603 election offences were recorded during the 17th Sabah state election campaign.

Of these cases, 81 involved police reports while five were submitted to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Ramlan said these matters are now under the jurisdiction of relevant enforcement agencies.

He explained that EC actions primarily addressed minor violations involving improper campaign material installations.

“We have already taken action on these matters such as taking down inappropriate posters or the like,” he told reporters after visiting Sekolah Kebangsaan Kawang polling centre.

The EC chairman emphasised transparency throughout the vote counting process with party agents present at each counting table.

He confirmed agents must remain until counting concludes and formally acknowledge the process.

“As long as the agent does not sign, we will not consider the decision as a final decision,” Ramlan stated. – Bernama
