Umno Youth chief Akmal Saleh quits Melaka exco next week but continues leading party youth wing.
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh (pic) has announced that he will resign from his position as a Melaka executive councillor, effective next week.
The Merlimau assemblyman revealed the decision during the Umno Youth general assembly, noting that he had discussed the matter with party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Akmal, who currently oversees the Rural Development and Food Security portfolio in the Melaka state government, explained that he was stepping down to focus on his political struggle, vowing to continue his fight against DAP.
Despite leaving his exco role, Akmal confirmed that he will remain as Umno Youth chief, continuing to lead the party’s youth wing.
