Rapper Altimet joins Pakatan Harapan’s campaign for Saiful Nizam Samat in the Endau state by-election, drawing youth support.
MERSING, July 4 (Bernama) — The appearance of rapper and songwriter Altimet on the campaign trail for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Endau state seat, Saiful Nizam Samat, has certainly helped attract voter support for the coalition in the 16th Johor state election.
Lembah Jaya assemblyman, Altimet, whose real name is Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad said his participation reflected the spirit of solidarity in appreciation of the strong support that Selangor’s election machinery had previously received from other states.
“Out of the spirit of togetherness, we are here to give our full support to the campaign machinery here. Now it is our turn to join forces to help secure victory for the party,” he told Bernama at Penyabong Beach here today.
On the role of artists in politics and society, Altimet said members of the arts community carry a significant responsibility as a medium for conveying the aspirations of the people.
“Art itself reflects society, and creative works come in many forms such as songs, films and novels. Therefore, artists effectively become representatives of the people when they produce works that express what the public feels,” he said.
He believes that bread-and-butter issues related to the economy and the cost of living, including the BUDI MADANI (BUDI95) initiative, are among the issues closest to voters’ hearts when deciding which candidate to support.
Altimet also urged young people to fulfil their civic responsibility by voting and choosing representatives who will champion their voices in the State Legislative Assembly.
Meanwhile, Saiful Nizam said Altimet’s popularity and extensive experience as both an entertainer and an elected representative had significantly expanded the reach of his campaign.
“His experience as a state assemblyman and his popularity have helped me reach more voters, especially young people. At the same time, it demonstrates the strong sense of solidarity within PH,” said Saiful Nizam, who expressed confidence that the coalition’s campaign efforts would succeed in winning voter support in the constituency.
Johor voters will cast their ballots on July 11, with early voting scheduled for July 7.
