BN’s Dr Shahnon Rizal pledges mobile clinics and free ambulance services to improve healthcare access in Sulaman constituency
TUARAN: Barisan Nasional candidate Dr Shahnon Rizal Thaijudin has pledged to establish mobile clinics and free ambulance services to improve healthcare access in Sulaman.
The 32-year-old medical practitioner said many residents face limited access to health facilities due to distance, transport limitations, and travel costs.
“Geographical factors and the growing population in Tuaran have pushed up the doctor-to-patient ratio,” said the Kampung Baru Selaut native.
“Therefore, I want to bring healthcare facilities closer to the people by establishing more clinics.”
Dr Shahnon, a former medical officer at Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Neurosurgery Department, emphasised the need to train more doctors statewide.
He said Sabah has many talented young medical professionals who can enhance the state’s healthcare services.
The candidate also pledged to focus on basic infrastructure including village road upgrades, home repairs, and clean water access.
He expressed commitment to creating quality education and employment opportunities for youth empowerment.
“Young people today are a ‘sandwich generation’ supporting their children, spouses and parents,” he noted.
“To uplift their dignity and standing, we must provide them with proper jobs and education opportunities.”
Dr Shahnon faces a five-cornered contest against Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and three other candidates.
He described his candidacy as offering voters a new option rather than competing with prominent political figures.
Sulaman has 18,352 registered voters with polling scheduled for November 29. – Bernama
