Kedah hit by floods as monsoon affects three states

Floods in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu displace 2,112 people with thunderstorms and heavy rain warnings issued for seven states.

KUALA LUMPUR: Kedah has become the latest state affected by Northeast Monsoon floods, joining Kelantan and Terengganu with 2,112 people evacuated to temporary relief centres.

The Kedah State Disaster Management Committee confirmed 225 victims from 66 families in Kulim have been relocated to three shelters.

Affected areas include Kampung Siam, Kampung Bukit Sarang Ayam, Kampung Paya Serdang, Kampung Titi Tok Aris and Kampung Padang Cina.

In Kelantan, flood victims increased to 1,623 people this morning from 1,170 last night across three districts.

Twelve relief centres are now operating in Kota Bharu, Tumpat and Bachok following continuous heavy rain since Friday.

Terengganu’s flood situation improved slightly with 264 victims remaining at the Kampung Pulau Redang Mosque relief centre, down from 276 people last night.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued thunderstorm, heavy rain and strong wind warnings for seven states until 1 pm today.

Affected areas include parts of Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Melaka and Sabah.

The warnings cover multiple districts including Manjung, Kinta, Cameron Highlands, Sabak Bernam, Port Dickson, Tangkak and Sandakan. – Bernama
