The Election Commission has issued 446 postal ballot papers for the upcoming by-elections in Kinabatangan and Lamag, with voters reminded to return them before polling day.
KINABATANGAN: The Election Commission (EC) has issued 446 postal ballot papers for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections.
EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the ballots were issued today by appointed election officials in the presence of candidates’ postal voting agents.
For the Kinabatangan by-election, 203 Category 1A ballots were issued for officials, police and media, alongside 48 Category 1C ballots for agencies.
The Lamag state by-election saw 155 Category 1A and 40 Category 1C postal ballots issued.
“Postal voters must mark their ballots, complete Form 2 correctly and return them before 5 pm on polling day, Jan 24,” Khairul Shahril said.
He also reminded voters to safeguard vote secrecy by not photographing or sharing ballot papers online.
A total of 48,722 voters are eligible for the by-elections, including 48,526 ordinary voters and 196 police personnel and spouses.
The polls were triggered by the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on Dec 5 last year.
Kinabatangan features a three-cornered fight involving BN’s Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, Warisan’s Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman and independent Goldam Hamid.
Lamag will see a straight fight between BN’s Mohd Ismail Ayob and Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek.
Polling is on Jan 24, with early voting scheduled for Jan 20.
